Bocce (Bowls)

Bocce is a precision sport closely related to bowls with a common ancestry from ancient games played in the Roman Empire. Developed into its present form in Italy, it is played around Europe, and becoming popular in other countries including Australia. Initially played amongst the migrants themselves but slowly becoming more popular with their descendants and the wider community.

For many years it was played as a social recreation in backyards, streets and suburban parks. In the 1960’s following the post war inflow of immigrants, it became an organised sport and part of ethnic Australia’s social culture. When our Italian community established what is now known as the Italo-Australian Club, Bocce became a vital aspect of the club's culture.

The Bocce Club meets at the Gold Coast Italo-Australian Club Bocce Courts, situated behind the main clubhouse, every Wednesday from 9am and every Sunday from 2pm.

Please feel free to come along to watch, learn or play.
